1. Search Engine Placement Class - Wed. November 8th

Learn how to develop a strategy to help your web site be more easily found by the major search engines. This class will provide background information on the workings of major search engines, and specific steps your company can take to improve the ranking of your site.

  • Understand how site construction techniques affect your rankings.
  • Learn how to focus your search placement efforts for the best results.
  • Understand the role of metatags and how they influence success.
  • Learn how to craft meta information to improve your rankings.

We will examine actual sites to see how they ranked and how their rankings could improve. We will explore some of the major search sites in depth to better understand where and how they get their results. This seminar is similar to the one in the spring but will incorporate new information and additional examples.

The class is being co-sponsored by Greater Olean and will be held at Country Inn and Suites across from St. Bonaventure (Allegany, NY) on Wednesday, November 8th at 9:30. The cost of the class is $25 to area Chamber Members and $40 to non-members. The discount is applied to chamber members from all WNY and NW PA. Chambers Of Commerce. To register contact Meme at Greater Olean via email: meme@oleanny.com or phone: (716) 372-4433.

2. Sever and Mail upgrades
Improving your web and mail experience.

Over the past 4 months we have been aggressively upgrading our server capacity by increasing our server space and performance and adding additional mail processing capacity.

Mail Processing- spam has been a burden on all, not just filling your in box, but slowing down our servers as well. To handle the ever increasing amount of spam (we have received as many as 750,000 emails in a 5 minute period) we installed a separate server that has the sole job of "pre-processing" email. This "pre-processing" runs every email through an evaluation process assessing its worthiness BEFORE it gets to your inbox or our web server. The preprocessor dramatically cuts down the spam making it to you and speeds up our web & mail server by not having to handle the huge bulk of mail.

Web Server Upgrade - we have also added a sixth server to our server mix. The increased capacity has allowed us to further reduce load on our existing servers and leave plenty of room for expansion. As we refine this new server over the next rew months you will see server performance improve.

3.The Web gets Coupons
Promoting your website.

Google has a history of developing new technologies that change the way business is done. Their most recent development is a means for local business to create and distribute printable coupons on-line. Google is aiming to drive U.S. online shoppers using its Google Maps service to visit stores. When Google users search for local information, discount coupons from U.S. businesses now are displayed on Google Maps (http://www.maps.google.com) search results and business listing pages.

You can see an example of these coupons by searching on: computer repair Olean NY at Google and selecting the Coupons link under our name or clicking on this link.

The coupons can be printed out directly from a computer and redeemed at a physical store location of a neighborhood or local business. There is no charge to businesses or consumers. While it is still early in the life of this technology and Google Maps is not yet that widely used, I think that it predicts a change in how coupons will be distributed.

Would this help your business? We now can train you in taking advantage of these features or manage a local campaign for you.

4.Free software to improve your website
JAlbum - software to create and manage web photo albums

Creating and managing a large number of photos for on-line presentation can be time consuming and difficult. Creating both a functional and attractive interface is also a problem. Doing all of this quickly AND easily being able to update your images on-line is exactly what JAlbum does. And the best news? Its free.
